Business strategy / Cinemas closed for three months, now focusing on other business for revenue, will move from F&B to Cloud Kitchen

Theaters, which have been closed for the last 3 months due to Corona hit, are now finding new avenues of revenue.  Now theaters are venturing into businesses ranging from food and beverage to kitchen cloud.  Through this, these theaters will be seen delivering and parceling food items to your homes in the coming days.  In this episode, multiplex operator PVR is planning to expand its F&B (Food and Beverage) brand.

 F&B accounts for 30 percent of the total revenue.

 PVR chairman Ajay Bijli said that F&B accounts for 30 per cent of our total revenue.  F&B is a segment that allows people to take the product home.  We will offer a good bucket of proprietary food products, which people can buy online with the store.

 F&B is currently consumed in cinemas only

 Bijli said that we are currently working on three things (R) - Rescue, Revival and Reinvention.  The special thing in reinvention is that its revenue comes even when the shutter is closed and the shutter comes on.  F&B is currently consumed in cinemas only.  Its F&B carries only Popcorn at home.  We at PVR will focus on this and the products that are good to take home.

 Let us know that PVR has a huge chain of F&B and it is not limited to just popcorn and beverages.  From live kitchen menus prepared by celebrity chefs, PVR is betting big on its F&B offers.  According to a FY 2020 report, the F&B segment continues to be the second largest source of revenue for multiplexes with gross margins between 70 and 75 percent.
 The ratio of ticketed and non-ticketed revenue globally is typically 1: 1.  However, non-ticket revenue in India is typically up to 40–50 per cent for large multiplex chains.  It can play an important role in future development.

 Cornival Cinema Entering Cloud Kitchen

 Carnival Cinema is now installing cloud kitchens in its 100 theaters for revenue due to cinema houses closing across the country.  Cornival is offering movie menus and fresh counters under its movie-cinema menu.  Through this, Cornival plans to generate revenue even after theaters are closed.  Cornival recently announced that it would invest Rs 15 crore over the next two years.

 In the first phase of the four-phase expansion, Cornival has installed Cloud Kitchen at nine locations in five states.  Additionally, in the next three months, the company plans to open 8 more outlets in Mumbai and Pune.
